This is the 30th Anniversary of his birthday as a federal holiday. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was born January 15, 1929 but his holiday is celebrated on the third Monday in January. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights activist who non-violently protested to end racial discrimination. He lead marches and protests for equal rights, jobs, housing and education.
